When in the early ‘90s, the Kyoto Protocol, the first important agreement about GHG, Global Warming and Climate Change, was broken, and finally was not signed by any important polluter countries, I knew that it was all a charade, and Greta said a just few months ago in just another climate meeting… “blah blah blah” -30+ years after Kyoto’s Protocol.
Climate Change, sadly, is happening right now to so many communities around the globe, usually the most vulnerable ones… and the major responsible for the increment ignominiously of the production and burning fossil fuels and incrementing CO2 and other GHG during the last 4 decades.
Now, the COP26, closing even one day earlier, gives “hope to the world”, signing documents, clapping for each other, shaking hands -while still in Pandemic- and taking pictures. However, the world has changed since the ‘90s, and now we have a global networked community, and now we know nothing is happening, again…
When they are going to see the light? Probably no before than the water rises in North America and Asia, among many other places, Tuvalu is already a country under water in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Only then they will see what the scientists were talking about 50 years ago… first reports predicting climate change if global warming was not stopped on time. And, likely, the millennials more than anyone else, I think, know that it is too late now, and they and their kids will face drastic changes in the world as we know it, simply because of human stupidity, when too many stupid people get into places of power, way too many stupid decisions are made, even against the will of the majority of their populations, and the civilizations, by the corruption of a few in power, goes for a path of extinction, like so many times before in human history.
